All About Protein

January 31st, 2010 by

Proteins are very important to our bodies. It isn’t just for bodybuilders who use them to gain muscle mass. Those who are sick use them to rebuild damaged tissue and even in normal states, our body uses protein for many different tasks. Proteins are made of amino acids that are folded together. There are essential amino acids – those that our body cannot make, and non essential amino acids – those that our body can make. Proteins that are made up of all the essential amino acids are said to be complete while those that lack in one or more essential amino acid are incomplete. Complete proteins come from sources such as meat, eggs, cheese, dairy and soy. Incomplete proteins come mainly from vegetable sources with the one exception being soy. The ideal source should be complete proteins. For most people that isn’t a problem. If you are worried about fat intake, try lean cuts of beef, chicken and turkey. For vegetarians whose main source comes from incomplete proteins, getting a variety of vegetables and whole grains throughout the day will ensure that all essential amino acids are consumed. Also, using soy protein (which is the only complete vegetable source of protein) is very beneficial. does anyone know anything about Lifestar Home of Living Food Concentrates multivitamin/mineral?

January 30th, 2010 by

Hi John. I just looked at this product on the company’s website. I am NOT impressed. They make some unsubstantiated claims (e.g. the product is “widely used by doctors, etc. – I don’t know any doctor that uses this brand!). Additionally, there are major inadequacies in this product. The calcium and magnesium levels are ridiculously low. The type of vitamin E is not listed (always a RED FLAG with vitamin supplements). The specific forms of other vitamins are not listed, as well. Overall, my impression is this company has developed a major Marketing Gimmick to sell this inadequate product. Best wishes and good luck.

Does a multivitamin have the same benefits as a super healthy diet?

January 30th, 2010 by

Just curious. Who’s better off? The people who follow rigid super healthy diets with 100 servings of fruits and veggies and this and that every day with no multivitamin? Or the average joe who eats decent meals (fast food sometimes) and takes a multivitamin? Does the multivitamin provide the same benefits as healthy food? Depends on a lot of things, but as a whole the person who eats right should be better off … it stands to reason that a person that eats healthy will be better off than a person that eats junk food and a vitamin. However, there will always be some few stray vitamins or minerals that the person might be deficient because they are lacking from the diet. Take the best approach and do both, get a good quality multivitamin (there are a lot of major brands reviewed over at http://www.nutritionaltree.com) and eat right.

What is the best men’s multivitamin?

January 30th, 2010 by

I’m looking for one with a B-complex in addition to multiple other vitamins. They come “a dime a dozen”. Look for one with natural sources and best in a liquid, bio-available form. If you take pills, up to 90% can just pass through. Vitamins aren’t helpful unless your body can absorb them.

Been getting this weird twitching on the top of my eye lately, not the eye itself but the eyelid?

January 30th, 2010 by

It randomly spasms where it contracts inward repeatedly. This isn’t noticeable to anyone but me unless you look closely. I believe it is doing this cause I spend a lot of time at the computer and from staring maybe it is causing my eye to dry up so it is spasming to retain moisture? Is this anything more serious though? Like if my eye is too dry will I lose vision or even something worse? Do I need a multivitamin or something else? Help me please! It sounds like a facial tic. These are most common in children, but sometimes occur in adults. Usually, it’s temporary. In rare cases, it’s connected to a seizure disorder. If it’s severe, there is medication to help with it. Generally, the tic will go away in a short time without any treatment. Stress is often a factor. Trying to eliminate stresses and get more rest will often help. Good luck.

Does a non-organic creme same LaMer actually impact such meliorate and would be beatific for long-term use?

Common Causes of Hair Loss

January 30th, 2010 by

It is very natural for a person to loss 50 to 100 hairs each day under the body’s hair renewal process. But most of the people at least once in their lifetime suffer with heavy hair loss. There may be various reason behind this; like medication, chemotherapy, exposure to radiations and certain chemicals, nutritional and hormonal factors, thyroid disease, skin disease or stress, etc. In most of the cases hair loss is temporary but in certain cases it may be permanent depending on the severity of disease. Some of the most common causes of hair loss are explained here. HORMONAL Hormones are stimulant to hair growth and causes hair loss problems. Hormones affect heavily our hair growth. These affect both male as well as female hair health. Hair thinning is one of the hormonal problems and affects both men and women. Hair thinning in male is specific and follows a pattern from the front through to the crown. Hair thinning in female does not follow any specific pattern. Hair thinning is caused by androgen DHT or Dihydrotesterone. Everyone has DHT but only some suffers with hair problem, are you wandering, why? This owes to the hair follicles, which have a greater number of androgen receptors for the DHT to attach with. Till date the most effective treatment for the problems of hair thinning is; anti androgens. Anti androgens are preventive drugs that prevent the creation of DHT. In future we may get genes therapy for hair thinning problems. Childbirth Many of the females experience hair loss after labor. In such a situation many of the hair enters the telogen or resting phase. Some of the females experiences hair loss within two to three months after giving childbirth. Hair problem due to pregnancy is temporary and in many of the cases eradicate within time, say 1 to 6 months. This occurs because of diverse hormonal changes that take place within the body during pregnancy. Birth control pills The females who are genetically programmed with Androgenic Alopecia, if takes birth control pills at much younger age encounters hair loss. Androgenic Alopecia is caused due to various hormonal changes. The females who have history of hair loss in their family must consult doctor before taking any birth control pills. This type of hair loss is temporary and may stop in 1 to 6 months. But in some of the cases, it has been noticed that a female cannot regrow some of her hair that was lost due to Androgenic Alopecia. Deficient diet A good balanced diet rich in varied variety of nutrients is equally important to your hair health. The person who eats less of proteins or has irregular eating habits suffers with hair loss. Generally to save protein our body pushes growing hair into resting phase. If your hair can be pulled out by the root very easily, then this may be due to lack of a well balanced diet. This condition can be prevailed by eating a diet rich in proteins and other necessary nutrients. Low serum iron If some person either may not have access to iron rich food or his / her body may not absorb enough of iron then this may cause hair problems. Women during menstrual period are more prone to be iron deficient. Low iron in the body can be detected by laboratory test and can be corrected by taking a diet rich in iron and iron pills. Disease Or Illness Hair loss due to some disease or illness is very common, but this type of hair loss is temporary and lost hair may grow again. Diseases like sever infection or flu and high fever, thyroid disease etc may lead to hair loss. Certain medications, cancer treatments, and chronic illnesses also cause hair loss. A person who receives surgery also faces hair loss problems. However, hair loss problems of any sort are generally temporary and can be solved by taking good nutritious diet and professional help.
